Munna - *ing Prabhas, Ileana, Prakash Raj

Audio Review

After many successful albums, Harris Jayaraj is totally reliable when you want to listen to hummable, catchy music in many genres. He has that distinct touch, and is no longer sounding like Rehman's poor cousin, with a unique style of his own. Prabhas is back after the debacle called Yogi and Ileana after Khatarnak, and a fairly successful Rakhee. Jayaraj's music in Munna is everything that makes an album worth listening to.

Kadhulu Kadhulu KK simply rocks with the playback with this fast paced, peppy number which sounds inspiring and danceable at once. Viswa's lyrics hit the right chord with Jayaraj's fab music. The use of drums and guitar along with KK's powerful vocals make it a super cool number. ****

Manasa Sadhana Sargam, back after a long time, starts this lovely romantic song in her inimitable style. Naresh Iyer (of Rang De Basanti fame), along with Krish and Haricharan give her company. It is sweet and hummable. The lyrics are same as ever, heard many times before courtesy Kandikonda, but the beats and great playback makes this song soft on the ears. ***.75

Vasthaavaa Vasthaavaa This so totally sounds like the essential Item Number, but its possible its not so. KK again, with Shalini lend their voices for lyrics penned by Ananth Sriram. It does not have the freshness of the other two preceding songs, but it is not bad. Jayaraj does better than this. ***

Baga Baga (Power Of Munna) Shankar Mahadevan sings this song, the usual heroic fare about the protagonist. The chorus is interesting, and the impact that it aims at is attained. Kandikonda's lyrics make sure no stone is left unturned in singing the 'Hero's' praises. ***.25

Chamakkuro Anushka and Karthik give this sultry number a slow and sensual feel. Blaze Chinmayi and his chorus rap in the interludes. A passionate duet, the song has an old-world feel to it. ***.25

Koncham Koncham Surprise, Surprise! Kailash Kher has been roped in for this classic old-world duet, with earthy beats to give it a distinctly rural feel. Sujatha gives him company, but Kher's voice is so unique and sounds different in Telugu, still like all other 'imported' singers, the diction has been worked on. The music has been inspired from Hindi folk/Krishna's devotional songs, instead of Jayaraj's usual western beats. Good vocals make this dance number stand out. ***.5

Last Word Along with Jagadam, this is the other album that is sure to rock the charts this season. Jayaraj is inspired from international music and choir songs, and makes good use of it. The sounds are interesting, fresh and the instrumental never fails to elevate his songs. The playback is made good use of with the likes of Naresh Iyer, Blaze, Sadhana Sargam and KK among others. Overall, it is a good album, sure to add interest to the movie.
